Gental for Odoo: a secure Odoo MCP server

Gental for Odoo is a free module (LGPL-3) for Odoo 17 to 20, Community or Enterprise, self-hosted or on Odoo.sh. It turns Odoo into an MCP server at one https URL for any MCP client: a Gental agent, Claude or ChatGPT. The agent acts as an Odoo user you choose and sees only what you expose. Odoo Online can’t install custom modules. Get it on the Odoo App Store.
How an agent reaches your Odoo
The module runs inside Odoo itself: no sidecar server and no extra Python packages. Your data stays in Odoo.

The MCP Server for AI Agents module
One URL, such as https://odoo.example.com/mcp. It checks the sign-in (OAuth or an API key), passes each request through three walls, and logs every request in its Inbox.

Three walls every request must pass
If any wall says no, the request is refused, logged as denied, and returns no data.
What you exposed in the module
The server is on, the area is enabled or the model and operation are allowed, and the field isn’t hidden. Binary fields, passwords and tokens never leave.
Who may connect
Only members of “Gental MCP: Connect” (or the groups you choose). The module recommends a dedicated “Gental Agent” user.
Odoo’s own access rights
Every request runs as an Odoo user, so that user’s access rights and record rules are the outer wall. No sudo on business data.
Sign-in and tokens
OAuth 2.1 with PKCE through your normal Odoo login (and its two-factor), and API keys shown once. Every token is stored hashed and can be revoked at once.
What the agent can do in each Odoo app
Ready-made tools appear only when their app is installed and their area is on, and you can switch off any single tool.

“My orders”, “my invoices”, “my balance” and “my deliveries” work only for the customer chatting with the agent, through an identity Gental signs.
Your own apps, documents and events
Any model, operation by operation
Expose any model, custom ones included: read, create, update or delete, with hidden fields and an extra domain such as one company only.
Methods you allow-list
Allow specific public methods on your models and mark each as read, write or destructive. Internal methods are always refused.
PDFs behind expiring links
Invoices, quotations and delivery slips from Odoo’s own reports, behind a signed link that expires after 24 hours (you can change it).
Signed webhooks
Subscribe to events like invoice posted or paid, order confirmed and lead stage changed. Every delivery is signed with HMAC-SHA256 and retried up to eight times.
A dashboard and logs in Arabic and English

What Gental adds on top of any MCP client
The module works with any MCP client. With a Gental agent on WhatsApp or your website you get more:
Verified customer identity
Gental sends the customer’s number signed, and the module matches it to the Odoo contact. No match, or more than one, and it doesn’t guess.
A confirmation before any change
The agent shows a summary and asks the customer before it creates or changes anything, and prices come from Odoo in a signed preview, not from the agent’s words.
No duplicates
Each confirmed action carries its own key, so a retried request after a lost reply returns the same quotation instead of a second one.
WhatsApp and your website
The same agent answers on WhatsApp, the website widget and the API channel, and PDF links reach the customer in the chat.

Install the module
From the Odoo App Store, update the apps list, and install “MCP Server for AI Agents”.
Set the public https URL
In Gental MCP › Configuration › General, then run the reachability check so you know clients can reach it.
Choose what to expose
Turn on the ready-made areas you want, and add models, operations and hidden fields.
Create the “Gental Agent” user
An internal user with only the groups it needs, added to “Gental MCP: Connect”.
Connect an MCP client
In Gental: Custom MCP server, paste your Odoo URL ending in /mcp, sign in as Gental Agent and approve. Claude and ChatGPT work the same way.

The module calls Odoo’s ORM directly and doesn’t depend on the XML-RPC and JSON-RPC external APIs that Odoo has deprecated.

Common questions
Do I need Gental to use the module?
No. Any MCP client can connect to it, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your own scripts. Gental adds verified customer identity, a confirmation before any change, and replies on WhatsApp and your website.
Does it work on Odoo Online?
No. Odoo Online can’t install custom modules. The module runs on self-hosted Odoo and on Odoo.sh.
My Odoo is on a private network. Can I connect it?
You need a public https URL that reaches Odoo, such as a reverse proxy. Gental and cloud clients only connect to public https addresses, and the reachability check in the settings shows you the result.
Where does my data go?
It stays in your Odoo. A client sees only the results of the tools you exposed, with the rights of the user it acts as, and every request is logged in the Inbox.
How much does it cost?
The module is free and open source under LGPL-3. If you connect it to a Gental agent, you pay for Gental per the pricing.
Is the module in Arabic?
Yes. The module’s screens are in Arabic and English, and tool results follow the language of the request.
